About us: The Saturna Recreation Centre Society is an incorporated non-profit society of Saturna Island community members, with an elected Board of Directors.
The Directors for 2011-2012 are John Simpson (President), Melanie Gaines (Vice President), Michael Vautour (Promotion and Events Co-ordinator), Ron Drane, Andrew Money, Rachel Preston, Joan Hoskinson, Linda Cunningham, Dian Johnstone. Contact Us with any concerns or interests you may have.
Our Volunteers: "Your Saturna Rec Centre Society appreciates - and would like to recognize- the many people who volunteer to organize, set-up, host, serve, play and clean up for the activities that we all enjoy at the Rec Centre. We want to graciously thank you for your assistance, because without you, this community would not be able to enjoy all the facilities offered at our fantastic Rec Centre. THANK YOU!" Membership and Facilities: Year-round sports and cultural activities are now conducted at the Centre, and users of the facilities must purchase activity cards for one-year recreational activity memberships.
The exciting and state of the art Recreation and Cultural Centre designed by architect John Keay features great lighting, air-conditioning, geo-thermal heating and has a large gymnasium and meeting rooms, kitchen and other amenities. The Society, as planners, fund-raisers, builders and administrators of a new sports and cultural facility on Saturna Island, invites you to visit the Saturna Recreation and Cultural Centre.
Community Access Program: This program, supported by Industry Canada until March 31, 2011 and is available at both the Saturna Recreation and Cultural Centre in the mezzanine and at the Eddie Reid Memorial Library. CAP (http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/cap-pac.nsf/eng/home) allows internet access at these sites. The CAP site at The Saturna Island Recreation and Cultural Centre, 104 Harris Road, is operated by the centre's Society (250-539-2452), and is available 24 hours a day. Public Internet Access Sites The federal Community Access Program (CAP) currently provides
a small amount of financial support for Internet access both sites.
The two sites are the Saturna Recreation and Cultural Center
(104 Harris Road), and the Eddie Reid Memorial Library
(St. Christopher's Church basement - 140 East Point Road) (250-539-5182.
Both these CAP sites provide high speed internet access to the
public. |
